22nd issue (July-September 2006):
"City Museums in 21th century. Creating the City Museum of Volos"
The 22nd summer issue of "En Volo" is rather renewed, featuring changes in the permanent columns and a special on the planned City Museum, to be located in the former Papantos tobacco warehouse at the old district (Palia) of the city, at Feron 17.
The first part of the special presents announcements and concerns put forth during a two-day conference that took place on the 1st and 2nd of April of this year. Over these two days, noteworthy European city museum representatives along with Thessalian museum representatives and scientists of the field participated in a meeting titled "City Portraits in City Museums" and its subsequent workshop (translation: Marlen Mouliou).
The second part of the special presents documentation on the actions taken to date, so that the town will have a modern museum, and one that promotes the history of the city and its inhabitants, as well as the mentality of the team that took on this task.
As a city museum is, predominantly, a museum about the city's inhabitants, its creation, what is included, and its operation, must be the domain of the general public. The pages of the special present the views and the initial thoughts on the matter, from fellow city-representing organizations, clubs, Ministry of Culture members, the educational community, people concerned with public affairs, and the residents and professionals of the greater west suburban area of the town.
As the present issue is totally focused on the main special, the "Memento" and "Personalities" columns were merged into it, with the purpose of encouraging our fellow citizens to trust this initiative and support it, mainly by offering items for the collections. Thus, the columns are devoted to the people who donated, and the respective items, to the Municipal History Center so that those will be exhibited in the under creation museum.
