The
Municipal Center for History possesses today a rich archive
that consists of the Volos Municipality archive (1883-1982),
46 private archives concerning directly or indirectly the
city and its greater area, archives of old industrial enterprises,
as well as important material of building plans, maps, aerial
photos, transparencies and photos.

administration, utilization and promotion of any kind or
form of printed documents.
At this 11th -fall- issue of En Volo, the main subject
of interest is education, a topic habitually at the forefront
around this time of year. In pursuing the most complete
coverage of this multi-aspect topic, the editing of the
special was entrusted to the University of Thessaly professor
Haralmbos Haritos, a specialist in the history of education,
and with widely recognized research work in this field.
The contents of the special proceeded in the following three
axis: public education aspects, private and public sector
initiatives, and the municipality's contribution.
The above main topics aside, and as complementary to the
special's image function the articles of D. Pantelodimos
and H. Haritos on the most important educational institutions
of the area during the era of Neo-Hellenic Enlightenment
and on the local educational initiatives in last few years
before the unification, as well as the indicative bibliographical
guide at the end of the special -a useful tool for the reader
who whishes to pursue a more thorough investigation of the
topic-.
