The
Municipal Center for History possesses today a rich archive
that consists of the Volos Municipality archive (1883-1982),
46 private archives concerning directly or indirectly the
city and its greater area, archives of old industrial enterprises,
as well as important material of building plans, maps, aerial
photos, transparencies and photos.
The
library of Volos's Municipal Center for History and Documentation
started operating in 1992, its aim being the collection,
administration, utilization and promotion of any kind or
form of printed documents.
Enriching the art oriented topics, the holiday double-issue
of "En Volo" is dedicated to the literary tradition
of Magnesia. In this anthology a total of 102 authors and
poets are presented, through the editorial care of the Volos-native
researcher and author Giorgos Panagiotou.
The anthology is accompanied by a brief biography guide.
The aim of this special issue is to present sample writings
of the intellectual production of the area, and to attract
-as with every special- new contributions in the hope of
achieving greater plurality.
The remaining material draws its topics from events of national
and international interest. Thus the Society column depicts
the children of Ethiopia by presenting the introductory
visit and the registration of problems by the organization
"New Earth". In Sport, Nikos Maggitsis explains
the advantages of outdoor activity training, while in Education,
a first mention is made of a program, the implementation
of which began with the fall semester of 2002, that is stemming
from the cooperation of the Municipality of Volos and Drury
University.
In the Arts, the two recent major art exhibitions that took
place in the area are presented, the one being the Averof
Collection and the other being "The Spirit of Family",
which was organized by the Skopelos Photography Center.
In Personalities, Euaggelos Prontzas renders the work and
the life of the native of Volos Law Professor Nikolaos Pantazopoulou
and presents the first-time publication of a study made
by the professor in 1959.
Lastly, the two permanent pre-special columns include, as
always, local topics: Memento is dedicated to the fountains
of Makrinitsa, while Monuments to the Holy Monastery of
Ano Xenia.
